Duties and Responsibilities:

Dental Laboratory Technicians specialize in different areas of dental and orthodontic work. Their jobs usually include making and repairing dentures, crowns, and braces. They work in dental schools, commercial dental laboratories, hospitals, dental clinics, and for manufactures of dental prosthesis Dental laboratory technicians:

·    Repair denture linings.

·    Choose and mount replacement teeth.

·     Construct denture frames.

·      Identify needed prosthesis repairs.

·      Make and fix braces.

·      Cast plaster dental molds.

·      Clean and polish prostheses.

 

Average Salary: $22,000-$33,000

 

Educational Requirements:

Dental laboratory technicians must have a high school diploma or GED certificate before starting dental laboratory training.

Dental laboratory technicians must attend a community college, vocational school, or dental school to learn their skills. Programs are usually two years in length.

           “My Experience So Far At HPIAM”

Well so far I like this school it’s so big and clean, the teachers work with your more and they help you more with this things you don’t understand. High school for me is so different it’s actually not what I thought it was going to be like. I like high school now and HPIAM is a pretty good school they help you a lot with things you don’t know how to do and they with do anything they can to help you pass the class. Are school is so clean it’s not like my old school it’s was dirty, they school is clean everything is new! My classes are fun it’s like if are teachers will make are learning fun and not boring,  For example I never liked reading or things like that but my teachers helped me make reading fun for me! And now I read every day and it’s not as boring as it use to be. HPIAM is a medical school they have to do with medicine are principle Mr. C is pretty Cool he cares about us and how the school is he believes that were all going to graduate and I think with these things that are teacher are doing for us we are all going to graduate, that if you want to do the right thing! I’m glad I made the right choice and choose this academy it going to be the best school year I ever had. I’m planning on graduating and get my diploma I want to be some in life and have a good work and I think that this school is going to help me achieve my goals, I just need to do everything I’m asked to do. I’m glad I made a good choice and I picked HPIAM.

Reflection: I think this quote means that when you do something wrong, and try to make an excuse why you did it. You didn’t do it because you had to, you did it because you wanted to. It’s the same thing if you did something good, you do something because you wanted to, not because you had to. It’s always good to do something right rather than doing something wrong. If you have the option/chance to do something right, then you should do it. If you did something wrong, then you should try to fix the mistake and make it right!

Dental Hygienist

Duties and Responsibilities:

Dental hygienists provide preventive treatment for oral health problems. They also educate patients and promote dental health. They may be employed in health departments, nursing homes, hospitals, dental school, or school districts, but usually they work in private dental offices and clinics. Dental hygienists:
· Screen patients for dentists.

· Take and develop radiographs.

· Remove calculus and plaque from teeth.

·       Apply preventive treatments to teeth.

·       Counsel patients an oral health and teach them appropriate dental health procedures.

·       Perform dental office management duties.

Average Salary: $22,000-$35,000

Educational Requirements:

Dental hygienists must have a high school diploma or GED certificate before participating in dental hygiene education programs.

Dental hygienists usually earn an Associate’s Degree at a community college or private school. To practice, they must also earn a license by passing the Dental Hygiene National Board examination.

Some hygienists earn Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees if they want to teach, do research, or broaden their scope into public health issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Dental assistant help dentist provide dental care. They often work in teams with dental hygienists and laboratory technicians. They may work in health clinics, dental schools, nursing homes, and the military, but usually they work for dentists in private practice. Dental assistant duties include:

Ø Helping patients feel comfortable during treatment.

Ø Taking and developing dental x-rays.

Ø Taking medical histories for patients.

Ø Sterilizing and preparing dental instruments and equipment.

Ø Instructing patients about dental health care to include brushing and flossing.

Ø Performing office management tasks.

 

Average Salary: $14,000-$25,000

Educational Requirements:

Dental assistants must have a high school diploma or GED certificate. They must receive additional training at a community college, vocational school, or dental school to learn their skills. Length of programs varies between six months to one year. To become certified, dental assistants must pass an examination from the Dental Assisting National Board.
